WELCOME TO
SMU DSI LAB
Exploring the power of machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, data mining, software engineering, and cloud computing to solve real-world problems...

OUR VISION
Our team focuses on application of machine learning, natural language processing, data mining, and cloud computing methods to tackle data science infrastructure problems, with a recent focus on scientific workflows, provenance mining, software discovery, knowledge graph, and interdisciplinary applications of all of these interests in the areas of earth science and healthcare

OUR MAJOR PROJECTS
Sponsored by NSF, NASA, NIH, Google, and Ericsson, DSI Lab has been working on a range of research projects.
Community-Driven Scientific Workflow Recommender System
Although computing technologies continue to improve, adoption via the sharing and reuse of software algorithms (remotely accessible APIs) and data analytics procedures (workflows) remains a big challenge. Sponsored by NASA, this project tackles this challenge from a novel angle, to study how to leverage peer scientists' best practice to help facilitate the discovery and reuse of software methods developed by others.

Cyberinfrastructure Supporting Collaborative Big Data Analytics on the Internet
Modern science and engineering typically require support of collaboration and workflow/process. Sponsored by NSF, this project extends existing single user-oriented workflow tools to support collaborative design of big data analytics procedures.
Intelligent Assistant Helping Scientists on Research
In the current era of knowledge explosion, it is becoming increasingly critical to help researchers quickly grasp the core ideas and methods used in the sea of published articles. Sponsored by NASA, this project aims to train machines to read scientific papers and become research assistants to scientists.
